Kukorelly Endre: Biography

Endre Kukorelly (Budapest, 26 April 1951 -)

Attila József Award-winning poet, writer, journalist, and editor, member of the Digital Literature Academy from 2020.

He studied history and library sciences at Eötvös Loránd University. Between 1981 and 1985 he was the editor of the university's literary magazine, Jelenlét (Presence). From 1987 to 1989 he was editor at Pallas Publishing House. He has been the founder and editor of the literary journal A '84-es kijárat (The '84 Exit) since 1989. Between 1990 and 1992, he was a columnist for Magyar Napló, then a contributor to Magyar Narancs and Lettre Internationale. He taught creative writing seminars at the Intermedia Department of the Academy of Fine Arts and then at the Hungarian Writers’ Academy. He was one of the founders of the Rainer Maria Society (1982) and the István Örley Circle (1985). From 1999 to 2003 he was president of the Society of Hungarian Authors, and vice president of the society until 2006. He is a member of the PEN Club.
